POLITICO Pro: Here’s why Trump isn’t looking at the Strategic Petroleum Reserve — yet

Despite a spike in oil prices since the U.S. attack on Iran, the Trump administration is not currently considering tapping its government oil stockpile. SPR inventories currently sit at 415 million barrels, just 5 percent higher than when Trump took office and well below the 638 million barrels at the beginning of the Biden administration, according to Energy Information Administration data.

Trump's economic tumult tests the oil industry's patience

The industry’s reluctance to publicly criticize Trump is noteworthy given the pain it is feeling from the import taxes he’s hiked on the steel that oil companies need for new pipelines and projects, as well as the anger from the foreign buyers of their energy that his trade war has generated.“Trump’s tariff gamble places energy dominance at a crossroads,” said one oil company executive who had donated to the Trump election campaign and was granted anonymity to speak frankly on the subject. “Stri...

Among California tech donors, ‘hesitancy’ fades with Kamala Harris takeover

But a deeper look at second-quarter fundraising numbers underscore Garvey’s status as a political novice. Unlike Schiff, Garvey had to build his fundraising machine from scratch in a deep-blue state, and it shows: Schiff has outraised Garvey over the campaign cycle, accumulating about $41 million compared to Garvey’s $11 million as of June 30.
